A deal to take over the ferry services that link Orkney and Shetland to the Scottish mainland has been put on hold after a rival bidder mounted a legal challenge.

    Ireland’s Transport Minister has called on the Welsh and Irish Governments to work closer together to protect Irish Sea ferry services. Speaking at the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly in Dublin this week Leo Varadkar has said the links are vital for economic recovery.

    Irish Ferries have launched free WiFi services on all their services between the UK and Ireland. Previously only passengers in Club Class enjoyed the functionality, but it has now been extended to all on board.

    The completion of the two new Scandlines ferries Berlin and Copenhagen has once again been postponed. The new vessels will now go into service on 1 July and 1 September – approximately 4 months late.
